Kerala

Kerala '09

From Heathrow to Mumbai and then from Mumbai to Cochin. A very stressful journey indeed. The rest of my family received an upgrade whilst I was lodged in an economy seat with nothing to eat but vegetable curry with coconut rice, which was quickly spilt.

I managed to watch Slumdog Millionaire which was many times better than I thought it would be. You should understand that I rarely finish films.

When we arrived the weather was hot and humid (9pm at night). The taxi journey was good, although some of the sights were a bit depressing (beggars, homeless kids etc.)

The hotel we stayed at called "A Beach Symphony" was a great sucess. The cottages we were staying in were literally on the beach, and a 30 second walk would take you right into the [big] waves of the sea. Another 50 second walk would take you into your shower to clean up before supper, consisting of delicious south Indian food (mostly vegetables and fish).

The next hotel was an hour and a half away and was considerably different, in good ways. The rooms were much more elaborate and an internet service was provided. There was a cold swimming pool which was a welcome change from the warm Arabic Sea. We were on the doorstep of a brilliant marketplace selling clothes, toys, postcards and hammocks.

Next is Mumbai. I'll keep you updated.
